Hi! I’m Anna, I am currently studying in Venice, and I spent my mobility semester as a part of the Joint Programme at Otto-Friedrich-Universit?t in Bamberg. My academic focus is on American and English literature and culture, and the courses offered by the university in Bamberg gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge on the subject and made me even more eager to learn about it, I was also able to strengthen my ability to read texts critically. I also found the library very well-equipped, and I was able to do a lot of readings that enriched my academic background. I cherished my experience abroad and I would absolutely recommend other students to take this opportunity, as I found it a unique chance to grow academically and personally, and I encourage to make the most of it. 

"Hi, I’m Lara and I spent my mobility term as part of the Joint Master in New York City at City College New York. As a student of English and American Studies, I have always wanted to study and live in an English-speaking country. The fact that I got to do this in New York City, obviously was an added bonus. Living and studying abroad, experiencing another culture – especially an academic one – was a huge benefit for me. It helped me interrogate my own point of view as a person as well as an aspiring academic and taught me to be more adaptable. I learned a lot in my time in New York; more about the American culture, more about academic topics ranging from Shakespeare to the Jewish diaspora, and also about myself. I have loved my experience abroad and would strongly encourage other students to take advantage of this opportunity."

"Hi, my name is Leonie, and I spent my mobility term as part of the Joint Master’s Programme in Krakow, Poland at the Jagiellonski University. As a student of English and American studies, I have always been interested in learning about and experiencing other cultures, including different academic cultures. The Joint Programme offered me the opportunity to study abroad and explore Krakow with its rich history and also experience a new academic setting. The Jagiellonski University offers excellent and diverse courses on various topics. The classes are small, offering an intimate learning experience that encourages academic exchange. Due to the familial atmosphere, I was able to connect to my fellow students easily and enjoy a well-rounded academic experience. During my time in Krakow, I was able to broaden my academic perspective by attending courses in literary as well as cultural studies, with topics ranging from Jane Austen’s works to literary and cultural constructions of house and home. I learned a lot in Krakow, not only academically, but also about the Polish culture and myself. I encourage everyone to take the opportunity of the mobility term abroad, I have absolutely loved my time in Krakow."

"I chose Graz for my mobility university because I was interested in improving my German skills and studying American Studies at a larger university under professors with different, unique areas of expertise. For me, the added value of the mobility semester is not only receiving a dual degree at the end of my program, but also getting the chance to learn from a different cultural perspective and build a more international network of friends and colleagues. During my time in Graz, I was able to attend many diverse cultural and academic events through different organizations adjacent to American Studies and learned about new, different academic and professional opportunities."

“A diploma in English Literature does not limit its holder to academia. In fact, it opens doors to markets that focus on languages and their cultures. For instance, Advertising, Content Marketing, Product Management, etc… all work and manipulate language to attain the goal of a campaign. Or for example jobs in Communication, Public Relations, and even criminal investigators need high-level linguistic skills. Finally the art world offers plenty of choices, from theatre, TV, museums and cultural organisations to acting or writing.”
